A New Tone as the Flag Comes Down
|COLUMBIA, SC—At 10:00 AM on July 10, 2015 the Confederate flag flying over the state house will be brought down. The controversy over the flag had already become a hot button issue in the early stages of the 2016 elections. It appears that the removal of the flag will finally put an end to the partisan finger pointing.
A Democratic National Committee insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed her relief at the news, “I am pleased at the work the Republican leadership in South Carolina has done to address the flag issue in a manner that is respectful of all sides. It gives those of us at the DNC no pleasure whatsoever to continually have to suggest that Republicans are motivated by racism. Removal of the Confederate flag from the state house was the last item on our list that we couldn’t budge on before we could concede that the Republicans are no longer racists. At 10:00 AM tomorrow, I’m looking forward to a new day where DNC staffers and the candidates we support will no longer need to levy charges of racism against our Republican opponents. We can finally have a free exchange of ideas, with full confidence that we all have the best intentions for our country and its citizens.”
