Man Excited for Company Picnic

LAKE CITY, FL—Software engineering firm TechThings will be holding its annual company picnic this weekend at Alligator Lake Park. Amanda Bryson, the company’s HR coordinator, described the event as an enjoyable get-together for employees and their families, but the most enthusiastic support for the picnic came from employee William Tubord, a TechThings database administrator.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am for the annual picnic this weekend! If it weren’t for this picnic I would probably just be having a low-key, relaxing weekend at home with my wife and kids. Instead, I get to spend my Saturday at the park with the people I see all week long. These are people I’d probably never spend my free time with normally, so I see it as a great opportunity to get together without air conditioning, eat food out in the sun instead of in front of my TV in the living room, and take advantage of the park’s facilities, such as the public restrooms.”

“I have to say that the pinnacle of the day for me will be the team-building games that HR plans. Nobody really has any choice about whether they participate because the company’s president uses a megaphone to call employees out by name to make sure that everybody gets a chance to enjoy the games and get out of their comfort zones. We might get to do team events that allow us to be physically closer to one another than you would ever think appropriate at the workplace, get wet or covered in some type of food item, or do awkward things with potatoes. You just never know! I know outsiders might think we just go to the company picnic because we’re expected to make an appearance, but I can’t imagine that at TechThings. It is going to be awesome!”
